Technology for trades that run on the phone

In the trades, the business that answers first usually gets the job. Everything else — the website, the branding, the truck wraps — is downstream of that one fact.

So we start with the phone, the form and the follow-up, and only then talk about what the site looks like.

What is actually true about this trade

  • Most enquiries arrive on a phone, often outdoors, often mid-emergency
  • A missed call is rarely a callback — it is usually a competitor
  • The office is a truck, and the CRM is frequently a group text
  • Seasonality is severe: the busy weeks are the ones you can least afford to drop leads in
  • Reviews carry more weight here than in almost any other trade

Where the money leaks

Calls missed while on a job
The most expensive recurring loss in the trade, and the cheapest to fix. Missed-call text-back turns the call you could not take into a conversation instead of a lost job.
Ranking for the business name and nothing else
One combined services page cannot rank for six services. One page per service, named the way customers say it, is usually the whole fix.
Quotes that take three days to go out
By which time two other firms have quoted. Templated quoting and automated follow-up close the gap without adding admin.
No idea which marketing produced which job
Calls and forms counted properly, so the spend that works can be increased and the spend that does not can stop.

What we build for it

Missed-call text-back
An immediate reply on every unanswered call, day or night
Service pages that can be found
One per thing you sell, written the way customers search
Booking against real availability
Without the back-and-forth, and without double-booking a crew
Genuine location pages
For the areas you actually work — not the same page with a city swapped
Review requests built into job close-out
Compliant with both Google's policy and the FTC rule
Call and form tracking
So you can finally answer which channel produced the work

One thing we will not do

Generate a page for every town within an hour of you. Google's spam policies name that pattern directly, and the businesses that do it tend to find out at the worst possible moment. We build the areas you can honestly write about, and add more as the work accrues.

Common questions

We already get plenty of calls. Do we need this?
Then the question is not lead generation, it is leakage — how many calls go unanswered, how many quotes go out late, and how many customers never get asked for a review. That is usually a bigger number than the one a new website would add.
Our guys are not technical.
Neither is the software we build for them. If a system needs training to use in a truck, it will not be used in a truck, and we will have wasted your money.
Is this worth it for a two-van operation?
The missed-call and follow-up work usually is, because it pays for itself in recovered jobs rather than new ones. A full custom build often is not yet — and we will tell you that.
